DJ Playhouse is a highly accomplished and respected professional in the music industry, with a career spanning over two decades. His journey began in the summer of 1997, when a young and ambitious 19-year-old from Kalamazoo stepped onto the scene. After making a remarkable debut at the Bernhart Center, he swiftly secured his first nightclub gig at Club Soda, where he honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed DJs Cutt Nice and Crazy Caz.
During his tenure at Club Soda, Playhouse not only dominated the local nightlife but also expanded his reach to the airwaves. In the fall of '98, he took control of the turntables at Western Michigan University's 89.1 WIDR FM on Saturday nights, alongside John Reed.
The following year brought a new venue for Playhouse, as he embarked on thrilling Thursday nights at the Nouveau Room. As the new millennium dawned, he unleashed his mixing prowess at Kegger's, captivating audiences in downtown Kalamazoo.
In 2001, Playhouse's career soared to new heights when he had the privilege of performing at Twista's "Do or Die Concert," solidifying his presence in the hip-hop industry. This Midwest connection with the fast-spitting Chicago rapper became the catalyst for Playhouse's exposure to concert spinning.
In 2002, Playhouse shared the stage with industry veterans at Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium, where he showcased his skills alongside Slip 'N Slide's iconic artist Trina and Roc-a-fella Records' Memphis Bleek. Concurrently, he secured a two-year residency at The Blue Dolphin, thrilling Friday night crowds and further establishing his local stronghold.
Beyond his musical endeavors, DJ Playhouse is committed to empowering the younger generation through education. He actively engages with high school proms, promoting positive party experiences, and co-hosted a Hip Hop summit in Gary, Indiana alongside DJ John Reed in 2006.
Notably, the City of Kalamazoo has embraced DJ Playhouse, frequently booking him for their vibrant block parties, captivating audiences every Sunday from 4 PM to 8 PM since August 2007.
DJ Playhouse's influence extends even to the NFL, as Kalamazoo-native T.J. "The Diesel" Duckett handpicked him to headline his annual birthday bash in "Da Zoo" since 2004.
His passion for music knows no bounds, as he owns a recording studio and digital record pool, showcasing his versatility in creating club mixes. DJ Playhouse is relentlessly pursuing his goal of opening his own club, driven by his unwavering dedication to the craft.
In 2007, DJ Playhouse formed a powerful collaboration with MKE Entertainment, gracing the stage every Saturday at Gregory's on MLK Blvd. in Lansing, MI. He also performed at an unforgettable after-party for a Lil Wayne concert aboard the Michigan Princess, a boat in Lansing, on April 6th.
Further milestones ensued, with Playhouse opening for renowned artists such as Mike Bonner (BET Comic View) and Bro-man (Martin Lawrence show) at the State Theatre Downtown Kalamazoo in April 2008. That summer, he selflessly shared his expertise by teaching a music recording class at the Boys and Girls Club in Kalamazoo, while also serving as a judge for a talent show organized by the city later that fall. Currently, he delights audiences every Friday night at The Cadillac Club in Lansing, MI.
In May 2009, DJ Playhouse graced the Chenery Auditorium stage, entertaining fans alongside Atlanta-based artist Lil Scrappy. Additionally, since 1998, he has owned and operated his own Barber and Beauty Shop in Kalamazoo.
In 2011, DJ Playhouse channeled his wealth of experience into the realm of weddings, catering to couples in West Michigan and Northern Indiana. With a vast library of over 50,000 songs, he curates unforgettable playlists, ensuring the ultimate live DJ experience. As an added bonus, he offers complimentary wedding planning services, assisting couples in creating their dream day.
